Reports have claimed that Chelsea defender Reece James is pushing hard to return to fitness in time to feature at the World Cup.

According to The Sun, the England international has spoken to specialists who believe he could be ready to play before the end of November.

Despite it not being believed to be serious at first, a second diagnosis saw him ruled out for a number of months.

Chelsea have been currently enduring the pain of missing the 22-year-old. They have so far been unable to find a suitable replacement for the right of their defence.

England also looked set to suffer the same annoyance of his absence, with Kyle Walker also struggling for fitness in the weeks leading up to the competition.

However, The Sun have claimed he is now handing Gareth Southgate a further headache by making himself available after the opening few games of the tournament have been played.

In the last few Nations League fixtures, James seemed to have established himself as the number one option for right wing-back, and would certainly be handed his first World Cup appearances in an ideal world.

While his talent is undeniable, there is an argument from some Chelsea fans that they won’t want him to be chosen, with his rehab and returning for his club at 100% far more important to them.

However, with Southgate clearly not rating some options like Trent Alexander-Arnold, the risk on James may well be taken.
