Report: 23-year-old Chelsea player had to be consoled by Cesar Azpilicueta on the pitch after defeat last night

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta reportedly consoled an upset Mason Mount after last night’s crushing loss against Southampton.

Chelsea were beaten for the second time inside the opening five Premier League games by suffering a 2-1 away defeat on Tuesday at Southampton.

It’s been a really underwhelming start to the campaign for Thomas Tuchel’s side, who are already playing catch up on some of their big rivals.

The Blues quickly need to bounce back and show much more energy for this weekend’s next league match at home to West Ham.

Azpilicueta consoled Mount

Football.London reports Chelsea’s 23-year-old player Mount was especially disappointed immediately after the midweek defeat on the South Coast.

It is understood that 33-year-old senior defender Azpilicueta was there to comfort him with a hand on his head in the post-match aftermath on the pitch.

Mount, who’s disliked by the Saints fans because of his Portsmouth connections, would have been desperate for a big performance last night. Unfortunately, the England international was unable to drive his team to any points.

He was involved heavily in Raheem Sterling’s opening goal, but he must be disappointed with how his season has panned out so far.

Mount may have been Chelsea’s player of the year for the last two seasons, but the attacking midfielder has zero goals and zero assists in five games so far this campaign.

It’s time for Chelsea’s senior and best players to come together through this stick period.

There’s been so much happening off the pitch with transfer activity it’s been hard not to get wrapped up in it. Wesley Fofana was the latest new Blues signing to complete his move to Stamford Bridge today.

Let’s hope Thomas Tuchel can get his side to settle down and get back to playing their best football.
