Andreas Christensen reportedly didn’t feel properly trusted at Chelsea to play at the elite level.

Christensen, 26, spent a decade as a Chelsea player before exiting Stamford Bridge last summer. He was then snapped up by Spanish giants Barcelona on a free transfer.

The defender had some fantastic moments for the Blues, including winning the Champions League trophy.

However, the centre-back did walk away from west London with his prime years still ahead of him.

Andreas Christensen frustration

The Athletic has been told by a source close to Christensen that the player felt Chelsea had doubts in his ability, with the club always viewing him as an academy graduate.

Also, the report says the Denmark international didn’t feel trusted to play in high-pressure situations.

He’s had a stop-start debut season in Barcelona colours, but in the past couple of weeks is starting to show how good he can actually be.

If you asked Chelsea fans about Christensen’s exit at the start of the season, the general response may have been one of acceptance.

However, it’s fair to say the ball-playing centre-half would probably be in the team’s best line-up if he stayed this season.

There was always one hurdle with the defender that he couldn’t quite jump over to establish himself as the club’s key defender.

He didn’t start the Champions League final win over Man City in 2021, but did produce a sensational from the bench after coming on as a first-half substitute.
