Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga reportedly thinks he will be recalled on Sunday for his side’s meeting with Liverpool in the League Cup final.

The Blues face off against rivals Liverpool on the weekend to determine the winner of this season’s Carabao Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are looking to add more silverware to their recent success after winning the Club World Cup last month.

According to The Sun, Kepa is “confident” that his manager Tuchel will restore him to the starting line-up in two days time.

The report explains the 27-year-old was gutted when he was dropped for the Club World Cup final, so feels he’s owed a start in Sunday’s contest.

Edouard Mendy’s the outstanding number one goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, but he’s not played a single minute in this season’s Carabao Cup en route to the final.

In contrast, Spaniard Kepa has starred in two penalty shootout successes and played all five matches leading up to the final.

Couple of major Chelsea headaches

Tuchel’s got a big job on his hands picking his starting XI against Liverpool, especially in two key areas of the pitch.

First of all, he’s faced with the same conundrum he had very recently.

Chelsea’s Mendy got the nod given it was a cup final against Palmieras, but this weekend does feel a little different in the domestic equivalent.

Kepa, described as “outstanding” recently by Tuchel, has been integral in the League Cup campaign. It would be another colossal personal blow if he’s on the bench.

In addition, Chelsea’s striker position is a hot topic for debate going into Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku will be itching to return to the side after being benched in the week against Lille in the Champions League last-16. However, that would mean moving or dropping a player in Kai Havertz that really caught the eye as the leading striker.
