According to the Evening Standard, Timo Werner’s place in the Chelsea team is under serious threat as Thomas Tuchel begins to shape his squad for next season.

Life in South West London hasn’t been easy for Werner following his £45m (Sky Sports) move from RB Leipzig last June.

He scored for fun during his final season in the Bundesliga, but no such enjoyment has welcomed him in the Premier League.

Werner is on a run of just two league goals since the beginning of November, with his last strike in any competition coming against Newcastle in February.

Worries about the German’s form has led to an inquest over Chelsea’s need for another centre-forward.

Erling Haaland and Sergio Aguero are seemingly leading the way as Tuchel’s top priority signings.

With a new no.9 set to enter Stamford Bridge in the summer, Werner might be looking over his shoulder rather worryingly.

In the past two games, Chelsea’s attacking trio has consisted of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

This trio worked excellently against Crystal Palace and were efficient in the Porto defeat on Tuesday.

Whilst the young trident started in Tuchel’s team, Werner was dropped to the bench, a fate he may face again if Chelsea does sign Haaland, Aguero, or another striker.
