Stephen Pagliuca might join forces with one of the other potential Chelsea owners if his bid is unsuccessful.
Sky Sports reported earlier today that Paglicua had submitted an offer for the European champions ahead of last Friday’s deadline.
Who is Stephen Pagliuca?
The 67-year-old is the co-owner of the Boston Celtics basketball franchise, as well as Serie A side Atalanta.
He also co-chairs Bain Capital, a multi-asset alternative investment firm.

Not to mention being a leading private equity executive.
But clearly overseeing two sports clubs and a couple of companies wasn’t enough.
However, despite clearly doing pretty well for himself, Sky claim Pagliuca does not have the individual funds to source a move for Chelsea alone.
This may prevent him from making the shortlist of candidates drawn up by the Raine Group.
If he fails to progress to the next stage, Pagliuca could ‘seek to team up with one of the remaining consortia’ to ensure he stays in the race to buy the Blues.
There are a few groups that he might want to jump on board with.
Who could Paglicua team up with?
Todd Boehly remains one of the favourites to replace Roman Abramovich, with he and Pagliuca sharing a common American sporting connection.
Boehly owns a share of the LA Dodgers, a Major League baseball side.
Woody Johnson is another hoping to succeed Abramovich with the support of his USA-trained eye, as he owns the NFL’s New York Jets.

Or, Pagliuca could back an English-themed proposal.
British property developer Nick Candy has really gained ground recently, thanks to several investments.
Two South Korean firms, including Catalina Kim’s C&P Sports, and Elliot Management have since financed Candy’s efforts following his initial bid.
Sir Martin Broughton is being sponsored by the Crystal Palace shareholders Joshua Harris and David Blitzer.
Take your pick, Paglicua!
