Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would change his mind about selling the club even if the UK government were to omit him from their sanctions list, according to David Ornstein.
After nearly two decades of success under Abramovich, many Chelsea fans are understandably concerned about the club’s future under potential new ownership.
There are just, perhaps, too many uncertainties around the next owners’ policies and plans.
Many of these Blues fans will hope that Abramovich would make a U-turn and extend his era at Chelsea if he were to escape UK sanctions.
This, according to The Athletic’s Ornstein, is unlikely to happen.
“The consensus among the Chelsea fans is that they want him to stay. They made it vocally clear at Burnley [on Saturday],” the journalist told NBC Sports.
“But I don’t think he’ll be changing his mind from what I hear.
“Potential sanctions that he may face from the UK government, which he doesn’t feel he should be facing.
“He may not, but the threat of it and the environment around this means he will sell at some point.”
If that is the case, the fans can only hope for an equally ambitious new owner.
Thankfully, according to Sky Sports, Abramovich wants to make sure that the club is sold to someone or a group who will “carry on his policy of investing in the squad with a view to redeveloping Stamford Bridge or building a new stadium”.
