Chelsea are reportedly holding talks behind the scenes about a new contract for their defender Kurt Zouma.

According to Le10 Sport, the Blues are having discussions with the 25-year-old’s representatives about a new improved deal.

The Frenchman is still under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2023, but it looks like his performances this season may have done enough for him to be rewarded.

Zouma moved to West London for £12million (BBC) back in 2014 and he’s had a turbulent time since.

The centre-back managed to break into the Blues first-team, but a serious knee injury in 2016 against Manchester United saw his progress completely stall.

He spent the 2017/18 campaign out on loan with Stoke City rediscovering his form and spent the whole of last season playing out of his skin during a loan at Goodison Park with Everton.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard decided to keep him in the group this summer and he’s finally back in the senior team at Stamford Bridge after a long absence.

The centre-back has played in 29 games across all competitions already this season and has been one of the most consistent defenders.

He’s got real power and a presence at the back, as well as having pace to get out of trouble and also decent composure on the ball.

A new deal would be a significant sign of faith from the club in him and it looks like he’s someone Lampard is a big fan of.
