Report: Chelsea asking for just £22m for veteran pair; exit deals expected next week
Barcelona are trying to close deals for two Chelsea defenders; Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, in the next week as the London club is open to negotiating their asking prices, according to Sport.
The Spanish outlet claims that both players have already agreed deals with Barcelona for several weeks and are now patiently waiting for agreements between the two clubs.
It is expected to be two separate deals, but Barcelona are keen on securing the transfers by next week so the players can join the club’s pre-season tour to the United States.
Tuchel is said to have given the green light for Alonso’s potential exit, and interestingly, Sport claims Chelsea have already found a replacement for the left-back.
The report does not specify this replacement, although it might be referring to Emerson Palmieri, whose loan spell at Lyon just ended.
Azpilicueta’s situation, on the other hand, is described as more complicated.
The Chelsea captain triggered an automatic one-year extension clause in his contract in the second half of last season and is now under contract at the club until next summer.
Azpilicueta has reportedly spoken to the club’s new ownership group about his intention to leave, but Tuchel ultimately makes sporting decisions and the manager clearly knows what the defender can offer to the team on and off the pitch.
The former Marseille defender has reportedly also explained the reasons for his wanting to leave and is even “willing” to submit a transfer request if necessary.
Chelsea reportedly value the pair at €13million (roughly £11m) each but are still willing to negotiate.
