Reports have claimed that Chelsea have tabled their first bid to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol.

According to Foot Mercato, the Blues are one of three Premier League club who have submitted a proposal to sign the RB Leipzig man, with both Manchester clubs also interested.

The 20-year-old is currently enjoying a stunning World Cup. He is a key component to the Croatia side who have a real chance of winning the whole thing.

His personal performances have seen him attract a lot of praise too, with his international coach Zlatko Dalic describing him as ‘amazing’.

Chelsea fans may well be cursing their luck that he is not already a Blue.

Chelsea bid for Gvardiol

Todd Boehly reportedly made a late move to sign Gvardiol during the summer, despite already adding the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana to his ranks in a busy transfer window.

Despite offering a large transfer fee and the offer of a year back with the Bundesliga side on loan, the deal failed to come to fruition.

Now, Foot Mercato have claimed they have already got stiff competition over the signing, although they have announced their interest remains with a bid of more than £80m.

With how much of a dominant force he has been at the back during the World Cup, the price looks a bargain when considering he is only 20 years of age.

The Blues will certainly be looking for a competent replacement for Thiago Silva when he eventually retires, after his World Cup ended in heartbreak at the hands of Gvardiol’s Croatia.

While interest in the player is already red hot, he will solely be focused on looking to bring his nation their first ever World Cup triumph, at the expense of Lionel Messi’s fairytale campaign.
