Chelsea have reportedly shown intrigue towards Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, Presnel Kimpembe.

According to L’Equipe, the Blues are tempted by the idea of signing Kimpembe in order to bolster their rear guard.

The 25-year-old’s position at PSG could now be under threat due to the arrival of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

He certainly benefitted from Thiago Silva’s move to Stamford Bridge last summer, as he became a regular in defence alongside Marquinhos.

His performances earned him a spot in France’s European Championship squad, although Le Blues were dumped out in the round of 16.

Kimpembe faired much better in the previous international tournament, earning a World Cup winners medal in 2018.

Alongside him in both national team camps was Chelsea’s own N’Golo Kante.

“You can’t dislike N’Golo,” said the PSG man.

“He’s always smiling and is very positive. He gets along with everyone and, above all, he shows his quality on the pitch.”

Reuniting the two Frenchman in South West London would take some doing.

Aside from the fact Kimpembe is contracted to the Parisians until 2024, he is also vice-captain of his boyhood club and a key figure in their side.

However, Chelsea could use Kimpembe and Thomas Tuchel’s prior working relationship to their advantage.

Tuchel managed the centre-half whilst in charge of PSG, as the pair claimed two Ligue 1 titles together.

Now, this transfer certainly intrigues me.

I’ve actually seen a decent amount of Kimpembe recently, due to his appearances at the Euros and in the Champions League.

He is a good blend of old school and modern defender, able to mix up the rough with the smooth.

Plus, being left-footed, he has a certain allure about him.

This could add balance to Chelsea’s backline, considering they play with three right-footers in Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
