Reports suggest that Chelsea are ready to offer Mason Mount a new contract to get him to commit his long-term future to the club.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues are keen to secure the midfielder to a new deal after announcing the six-year deal of England international Reece James today.

The Blues made the announcement earlier this afternoon that the 22-year-old had put pen to paper on a long-term deal to remain at Stamford Bridge, making him the highest paid defender in the club’s history.

The news has gone down well with Chelsea fans on social media, with former captain and club legend John Terry taking to Twitter to express his delight at the news.

Chelsea to offer Mount new contract

Things could be about to get much better for Blues fans as well, with The Telegraph reporting they are now working on securing a deal for Mount to join James on the list of players to commit their future to Stamford Bridge.

The news won’t come as a surprise for supporters clued up on the new owners, with it being claimed that Todd Boehly in particular was stunned to learn that the English pair were among the lowest paid players at the club.

The wages they were sat on is clearly unrepresentative of their impacts on the club, with Mount being determined as the club’s most valuable player on the transfer market.

This is despite him not enjoying his strongest start to the season, with him yet to score during this campaign.

His drop of form saw him dropped to the bench for the game against West Ham at the weekend, although his impact off the bench alongside fellow substitutes Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell eventually saw the Blues get over the line in a controversial match at the weekend.
