Reports have claimed that Chelsea are keen to loan out teenager Gabriel Slonina after this winter’s World Cup.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues are hopeful that they can send him to a Championship side in order to further his development in England.

Signed for £12m in the summer, a lot of the scouting work was done by the previous ownership of the club.

However, Todd Boehly remained interested in the deal, and completed the transfer as one of his first pieces of business as Chelsea owner.

He was loaned back to the MLS for the remainder of their domestic season, picking up from where he left off after breaking through at Chicago Fire.

Last week, he joined up with the Chelsea squad for the first time, enjoying his first few training sessions under Graham Potter.

Chelsea want to loan Slonina

The Evening Standard have claimed that the club are exploring options from Europe, in particular England’s second tier.

The goalkeeping situation at Stamford Bridge is certainly attracting headlines.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has established himself as the number one again at the club, a situation which seemed out of the question just a few months ago.

This has seen Edouard Mendy left out in the cold since Potter came in to the club, despite being named UEFA goalkeeper of the year in 2021.

The Blues will be certainly hoping that Slonina can mature into a top goalkeeper for the club in the next few years.

Spending the money they did on a player as young as the American will certainly make the club hopeful that he does not spend too many seasons away from the club.

Experience training alongside Kepa and Mendy will have been brilliant for his development over the last week, and the club will be hoping anything he’s learnt he can take on to wherever he plays his football for the rest of the season.
