Chelsea have put themselves ahead in the hunt to sign David Alaba because they’re the only Premier League club to have offered him a contract, according to 90min

The Austrian announced he would be leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

This would end a decade of service with the German giants, which has been a cycle of silverware and success.

Pep Guardiola was a huge fan of Alaba and once said whilst managing him at Bayern that he ‘can play anywhere’ (Spox).

Alaba now wants a fresh challenge. There are plenty of willing suitors eager to offer him new pastures.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Real Madrid had already reached a verbal agreement with the 28-year-old but nothing had been signed.

He also stated that Chelsea and Liverpool were still trying to convince him to sack off Spain and come to England.

The Blues have apparently made the first move by presenting a deal to Alaba. The player hasn’t currently been swayed.

This follows Chelsea’s blatant desire to sign a new centre-back. Alaba is among several candidates including Dayot Upamencano, Niklas Sule, and Raphael Varane.

There could be a merry-go-round of defensive transfers come the summer across Europe.

Bayern has already announced the signing of Upamencano from RB Leipzig (Sky Sports).

Thomas Tuchel needs to address his own in own house problems before bringing in extra bodies.

Thiago Silva has not yet extended his deal with Chelsea and Fikayo Tomori ‘s situation with AC Milan is still uncertain.

Football is a simple game. 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, Real Madrid always get their man.

It looks unlikely Alaba will opt for rainy London over the sunshine of Spain.

I guess there is promise in the fact they’ve at least approached him and shown interest.
