Chelsea want to sign Santos forward Marcos Leonardo

According to 90min, Chelsea are interested in signing Marcos Leonardo from Santos.

A number of other clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, are also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old forward.

Leonardo is playing for Brazil at the ongoing 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Santos forward scored both goals for Brazil in their 3-2 defeat to Italy in Group D before finding the back of the net once against the Dominican Republic in a 6-0 victory.

According to 90min, Chelsea were impressed by Leonardo while scouting Andrey Santos in Brazil.

The report has added that Leonardo considers former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo as his idol.

One for the future

In our view, Marcos Leonardo is a player for the future for Chelsea and should not be looked at someone who could be able to make an immediate impact at the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

The 20-year-old Brazilian forward has scored 42 goals and given 10 assists for Santos.

That is hugely impressive for someone who is only 20.

We know that Chelsea need to sign one or maybe two quality strikers in the summer transfer window.

While Leonardo would be a good acquisition for the Blues, the Brazilian should not be put under pressure to become an instant succeed.

Perhaps staying on loan at Santos for another season would not be a bad idea, if indeed he joined Chelsea.
