Reports have claimed that Chelsea’s Armando Broja is set for surgery following an injury suffered in the friendly match against Aston Villa.

According to the Evening Standard, the striker could be set to miss up to a year of football as a worst case scenario, all-but ending his involvement for this season.

The screams of the Albanian could nearly be heard all the way back at Stamford Bridge as he went down off the ball during the friendly in Abu Dhabi.

He was eventually stretchered off the pitch in real discomfort, leaving those watching worried as to what the future holds for the young man.

Graham Potter was coy in his post-match comments, but was not hesitant to admit how awkward the injury looked.

Now, the Evening Standard have confirmed the player’s worst fears, that the injury involves the ACL.

Broja out for the season

The report goes on to say that the injury could see the striker miss up to a year of football in the worst case scenario, which is obviously devastating for a player who was finally threatening to blossom at Stamford Bridge.

The news confirms that Chelsea only really have two options to look to as central attackers this season; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz.

With both hardly pulling up any trees this season, it may tempt Todd Boehly to enter the market next month to try and sign reinforcements in the striker area.

Reports have claimed that the club have a pre-agreement to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, however that is unlikely to kick in before the end of the season. He is also suffering with an injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.

There has been talk of adding Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko to their ranks, with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.
