Report: Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is on West Ham radar for January
Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud is reportedly a transfer target in January for Premier League rivals West Ham.
According to the Mirror, West Ham are keen to try sign an attacker next month to bolster their squad and will be prepared to offload Andriy Yarmalenko to help raise transfer funds.
The report claims that the Hammers have a “long-standing interest” interested in Giroud, who is named as a target for them ahead of the next window.
It is explained that Blues manager Frank Lampard doesn’t want to lose the 34-year-old, but the player does have his own individual aspirations to ensure he’s involved in France’s squad next summer for the European Championships.
Giroud, who has been brilliant value for money at Stamford Bridge for £18million (BBC), is right now enjoying some decent minutes in the Chelsea first-team.
The left-footed striker has scored eight goals in 14 appearances across all competitions so far, with half of them coming in a remarkable performance away to Sevilla in the Champions League group stages.
He’s competing with teammates Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner for a starting forward position, so it’ll be intriguing come January to see if he feels like he’s getting enough minutes that he can stay with the club for the second half of the campaign.
