Chelsea have reportedly approached Frank Lampard over an immediate Chelsea return on an interim basis amid their search for Graham Potter’s successor.
The Blues have already appointed Potter’s former assistant, Bruno Saltor, as an interim head coach on Sunday but it is easy to see why they want someone more experienced immediately.
In fairness, Saltor did relatively well when in charge of Tuesday’s clash with Liverpool and could have earned his first-ever win if the players managed to convert the big chances they had in the game.
Still, another disappointing result or two could drag Chelsea into a possible relegation battle and it makes sense if the club do not want to rely on Saltor’s leadership.

According to The Guardian, Chelsea have therefore opened talks with club legend Lampard, who is currently out of work following his sacking at Everton in January.
Lampard is obviously very familiar with many of the current Chelsea players, due to his status at the club and having spent 17 months as their manager before his departure in 2021.
Lampard is reportedly ready to help the club on a short-term basis, while the Blues hierarchy continues their search for a new permanent manager.
The Guardian adds that if the talks go smoothly, the former England international could lead Chelsea for Saturday’s clash with Wolves.
Ideally, Chelsea should have appointed a permanent manager by now and given him the time to adapt before the start of the new season.
However, it is clear that Chelsea were not prepared to let go of Potter, so rather than rushing a decision, appointing Lampard as an interim manager would give them time to consider their options.
