Reports have claimed that Chelsea are ready to promote Levi Colwill to the first-team as early as next season.

According to The Telegraph, the club are preparing a new contract with the intention of including him in the plans for next year.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an extremely successful season on loan this season, becoming a regular for the overachieving Brighton side.

After a slow start, he emerged as one of the first names on the teamsheet for Roberto de Zerbi.

He impressed so much that he was even reportedly pushing to be included in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad for the upcoming fixtures.

Colwill unfortunately suffered an injury that kept him out of action for a few weeks, although he has just returned to training.

He has certainly shown he has the abilities to become a regular starter for numerous Premier League sides. However, The Telegraph have claimed that it is his parent club who want him in their ranks next season.

A now injury-affected Thiago Silva will likely be entering his last season with Chelsea next season, and therefore they will need a defender to come through and establish themselves at that moment.

Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have each shown glimpses that they will both be promising centre-backs in their admittedly short Stamford Bridge careers.

Kalidou Koulibaly is also a member of the first team, however has struggled to adapt to life in London since his long career in Serie A came to an end.

He has struggled to nail down a starting place since Badiashile came in last month, however the injury to Silva could see the Senegal international feature a lot more often, especially in the big game against Borussia Dortmund next week.
