Chelsea’s staff are aware that Graham Potter is playing Kai Havertz in the wrong position.

According to The Athletic, the Blues recruit team recognise that Havertz is not an out-and-out centre-forward.

It is understood that a lack of time was the main reason Chelsea couldn’t sign a high-profile striker during the January transfer window.

The report says the signing of a new No.9 is a ‘top priority’ for the summer, though.

It’s a good job that those within Chelsea don’t see Havertz as the long-term solution as the main striker.

The 23-year-old German did a fantastic job in Tuesday’s win over Borussia Dortmund, with the legendary Thierry Henry even hailing the Champions League performance.

Potter has put his faith this season in Havertz to lead the line, which isn’t his natural position.

The £150,000-a-week attacker is much more effective when he drifts into pockets of space and gets involved in the build-up rather than having his back to goal.

Hopefully, he can replicate some more displays like this week from now until the end of the season.

It’s clear to see Havertz has a lot of individual talent, something he reminded everybody of against Dortmund.

Can Potter find a permanent spot for him in his XI moving into next season, though?

Chelsea’s head coach has definitely took a liking to the Germany international since arriving in west London, so he’s getting plenty of opportunities to prove his worth.

We feel it’ll take a bit more than his latest European performance to convince supporters.
