Report: Club sources suggest when Chelsea takeover could happen, with up to 20 buyers interested

Roman Abramovich reportedly has numerous interested suitors willing to buy Chelsea from him.

According to 90min, the process of locating a new owner is still continuing, despite the perilous position of the organisation.

Why is Abramovich selling in the first place?

Investors started considering or even preparing bids for the Blues back when Abramovich announced he had put the club up for sale last Wednesday.

The Russian wanted to find a successor to his throne before the government sanctioned him for his affiliation with Vladimir Putin.

Unfortunately for Abramovich, his assets were officially frozen yesterday, meaning many of Chelsea’s functions like ticket sales or player transfers have been suspended.

A special licence from the government will allow the team to continue playing and staff shall be paid, but this warrant runs out on May 31^st.

Failure to find a fresh injection of finances and the historic institution could depressingly go bust.

However, 90min have provided a sliver of optimism amongst this dark scene.

They claim that around 20 parties are intrigued by the idea of owning Chelsea.

Chelsea could still be taken over

Initially, a deadline for a deal to be done had been set for the 15^th of March.

Whilst this has probably moved back due to the recent circumstances, 90min state that sources close to the situation believe the transaction will still happen “on a similar timeline” to what was originally in place.

This would be absolutely huge news for Chelsea if Abramovich’s successor can be found in the next few weeks, let alone days.

Until then, though, staff members of all variety will continue to worry about their future.

Fans as well have felt the sanctions extremely hard.

Other than season-ticket holders, nobody else is allowed to attend games at Stamford Bridge, other than those who bought tickets before the 10^th of March.
