Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill is now ‘increasingly likely’ to travel with England’s senior squad ahead of their game against Malta this week.
That is according to the Evening Standard,
If this is true, the 20-year-old will be in contention to make his senior debut for his country.
We’ve seen Levi Colwill drafted into senior training in the past couple of day at St George’s Park, but he’s yet to receive his first official call-up from the Three Lions.
The Evening Standard says that Colwill is now becoming more likely to be with England’s senior squad when they face Malta this Friday in a European Championship qualifier.
It is understood that England boss Gareth Southgate highly rates the young defender, who’s been named in the Under-21s squad ahead of the U21s Euros tournament this summer. However, he’s not joined up with the rest of his Under-21s teammates on Wednesday.
The report claims that the left-footed centre-back could fly out to the Under-21s competition and still make the first game even if sticks with the senior side in the days ahead.
Colwill need to get used to all this talk about him based on his huge potential.
It sounds like he’s on the cusp of the England squad, which could be sensible planning when you look at the centre-halves available to Southgate.
If the Blues academy graduate can continue impressing in the Premier League, we see a genuine route into the Three Lions line-up sooner rather than later.
Incidentally, England midfielder Jordan Henderson has praised Colwill’s quality after training alongside him this week.
