Chelsea players were told during training ahead of the clash against Brighton & Hove Albion tonight about the club’s European Super League ambitions, according to the Sun.

Much scrutiny has surrounded the formation of this exclusive tournament for the continent’s elite, which Chelsea are unfortunately involved in.

Word of this controversial competition spread pretty quickly throughout the sporting community, one that was met with overriding repulsion.

Bruce Buck, chairman at Chelsea, apparently called a meeting of the Blues to try explain their involvement in the Super League.

According to the Sun, this was not well received by the squad.

Individuals felt ‘gutted’ after hearing this proposal, aware of the ramifications it could have on them and the footballing industry.

On a personal note, UEFA aggressively suggested that Chelsea could be chucked out of the Champions League- along with Manchester City and Real Madrid- for their involvement in this operation.

Winning such an illustrious piece of silverware doesn’t happen very often in a footballer’s career. To have that chance ripped away from you would be devasting.

It also meant they might miss out on international action, with the Super League proposed to begin around the time as this summer’s European Championships.

This was not ideal for the Blues before they host Brighton at Stamford Bridge later today.
