Reports have claimed that Frank Lampard would be open to returning to Chelsea on a temporary basis this season.

According to The Times, the club legend, who was in attendance last night, is being strongly considered to see out the campaign if a permanent manager cannot be found yet.

The Blues are in this situation after the decision was made that they could no longer continue running the club with Graham Potter at the helm.

Club owner Todd Boehly had put plenty of faith in the former Brighton mad despite some dire domestic form in recent months, however dropping into the bottom half of the table was too much for him to even justify.

This has seen discussions commence over who will become Chelsea’s third permanent manager of the season, if anyone.

With just nine league games and a Champions League quarter-final to go, it is perhaps a far more attractive process for any potential manager to wait until the end of the season.

Lampard open to return

This is reportedly the desired end goal of Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently made jobless himself after being sacked by Bayern Munich.

He has emerged as the favourite for the job alongside Luis Enrique, who was most recently seen managing Spain at the World Cup.

If a temporary manager is required at Stamford Bridge, Lampard is reportedly a figure who would be keen to take that job on.

He of course already has experience in the position at Chelsea, leading the club in very differing circumstances.

A top four finish whilst under a financial embargo was a real achievement for the club legend, however what followed when the club spent plenty of money saw him lose his job.

Bringing the feel good factor to Stamford Bridge is essential based on how far it’s fallen, and Lampard’s appointment would certainly go towards doing that.
