Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, who’s at the centre of a huge potential takeover story at Stamford Bridge, reportedly has huge faith in Blues manager Thomas Tuchel.

According to the Evening Standard, Abramovich and the Blues hierarchy feel that the current side would be “significantly closer” to the Premier League title race this season if not for injuries and Covid-19 cases.

The report states the current owner had it in mind to open up more transfer funds to Tuchel, who he feels is the man to challenge the dominance of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. Second-placed Liverpool belong right up there in the top bracket, too.

However, there is so much uncertainty right now around the Bridge after a turbulent few days that has seen the owner take a step back.

First of all, Abramovich gave stewardship of the club to Chelsea’s foundation trustees over the weekend.

The Russian businessman, 55, will now reportedly listen to offers for Chelsea football club from any potential buyers. This comes in the wake of him anticipating a potential sanction from the UK government due to being connected with Vladimir Putin.

Swiss businessman Hansjörg Wyss has already confirmed he and three other people have already received an offer from Abramovich to buy the London club.

In addition, Abramovich reportedly wants £4billion for the deal, but may only receive offers in the region of £2billion.

Tuchel a dream for any new Chelsea owner

There is no doubt that Chelsea already have a manager at the helm that has the potential to enjoy long-term success.

The 48-year-old German boss has barely put a foot wrong during just over a year in charge, and it looks like the team are only moving in one direction with him.

It’s all going to be a bit alien for supporters if the ownership changes, so there are a lot of anxious fans understandably searching for updates every few minutes.

The biggest positive around the club right now is the calming presence of Tuchel, though.
