The Reuben brothers are reportedly seen as a better candidate to buy Chelsea than Nick Candy.

This is according to the Independent, who submit that Candy doesn’t actually have the finances needed to acquire Roman Abramovich’s kingdom.

Chelsea still has it admirers

There remains a big interest in who will be the next emperor appointed at the head of Stamford Bridge.

Abramovich’s assets being frozen by the government yesterday focused even more attention towards his possible successor.

Chelsea need a new owner fast to help steady the slowly sinking ship, with money urgently required to keep it afloat.

Fortunately for the Blues, there still appears to be a host of interested suitors willing to take on the challenge.

None more so than Candy, who is apparently still planning on subjecting a bid to buy the club he actively supports.

The 49-year-old property developer has spoken to several possible investors about making an offer for Abramovich’s empire.

One of his major plans is to redevelop the team’s stadium, a proposed renovation that stretches back as far as 2015.

It has even been proposed Candy may attend the game against Newcastle United on Sunday, one of the last times non-season ticket holders will be able to go to home games this season.

Candy out, Reuben in?

However, despite his clear passion for the project, the Independent claim the Chelsea supporter could be beaten to the top spot by the Reuben brothers.

Simon and David acquired a stake in Newcastle last October, with Jamie appointed as the team’s director.

It has been reported Simon and David’s value alone stands at £18.66 billion (The Shields Gazette), with Jamie adding somewhere between £764,000 and £3.9m (Sun).

This certainly overshadows Candy’s £800-£850m (90min) net worth.

Newcastle’s co-owners might be seen as the more favourable option due to their knowledge of running a club, but they would need to give up their shares in the Magpies before moving on to Chelsea.

Stamford Bridge is better than St James’ Park anyway…
