Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could accept a lower cash offer to ensure he is leaving the club in “safe hands” to start a new era, according to Sunday World.

It has been a few days since the Russian-Israeli billionaire announced the sale of the club through an official statement.

It is now close to the reported mid-March deadline (Sky News) for indicative bids set by Abramovich’s advisors at The Raine Group.

Various reports suggest that the Chelsea owner is looking to sell in the region of £3billion, but according to Sunday World, he is also determined to sell to a suitable buyer for the club.

This, the report claims, means Abramovich is not compelled to accept the highest bid but will instead ensure the club will be in “safe hands” as he walks away.

Bear in mind, he said that he has instructed his team to “set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated”.

Abramovich and his advisors have reportedly approached several high-profile potential buyers in recent days, with parties from Qatar, the UAE, and the US believed to be among those who have expressed an interest.

Abramovich unlikely to change his mind about selling Chelsea

Reliable journalist David Ornstein recently highlighted that despite many Chelsea fans’ being “vocally clear” on wanting the owner to stay, the chance of Abramovich’s making a U-turn is very low.

Even if he were to escape sanctions from the UK government, which is believed to be the main reason behind his decision, Abramovich will reportedly be under pressure to sell at some point due to the environment around it.

At least, according to Ornstein, the players seem very calm after being briefed by Petr Cech about the situation last week.
