Reports have claimed that seeing Chelsea in the bottom half of the Premier League was the moment where Todd Boehly decided to sack Graham Potter.

According to The Telegraph, the scenario left it impossible for the owners to feel as if there was any progress being made, or likely to be made soon.

Defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend was the final straw for the American after he handed plenty of backing towards the underperforming Potter.

Despite an initial honeymoon period, things fell off a cliff in terms of domestic form. A big few results in the Champions League are perhaps the only reason he remained in a job as long as he did.

It has been claimed that the former Brighton man took the decision to sack him extremely professionally. Some of his interviews and press conferences suggested that he knew inside it was the beginning of the end.

When Boehly decided to sack Potter

The hunt is now on for the Blues to find a new manager for the second time this season, although there may not be a new figure at the helm until the end of the campaign.

This would reportedly suit the hiring of Julian Nagelsmann more, after it was believed by many that he would wait a little while before returning to management.

He is seemingly the top target for the club as their next boss, which would fit the agenda they looked to fill when hiring Potter in the first place.

There are a number of other names being mentioned as being admired by those at Stamford Bridge. European up and comers Ruben Amorim and Oliver Gasner have been touted as potential replacements.

Bruno, who came with Potter to the club earlier this season will take charge for the time being.
