Report: The real reason Loftus-Cheek has been missing from Chelsea training for weeks

Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek has reportedly been absent for the last few weeks due to an Achilles problem.

According to Football.London, the 26-year-old’s missed recent matches due to the Achilles injury. However, it’s not the same one he ruptured in 2019 when he suffered a long-term layout.

Loftus-Cheek’s not been in the Blues squad for the last four consecutive matches. Instead, he’s been undergoing treatment on his injury problem rather than training.

The midfielder missed a Premier League win against Tottenham and an FA Cup victory against Plymouth Argyle. In addition, he missed Thomas Tuchel’s squad winning the Club World Cup last week by beating Al Hilal in the semi-final before overcoming Palmeiras in the final.

Thankfully, Loftus-Cheek’s been pictured back in training with the first-team group ahead of this weekend’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

He appears to be back in contention for manager Tuchel, but it’s actually been six games across all competitions since he got any minutes on the pitch.

Chelsea days are numbered

Something drastic will need to happen for Loftus-Cheek to carve out a long-term career at Chelsea from this point.

It’s quite the achievement for the Blues academy graduate to play 102 games for the Blues, but form and injuries have completely derailed his career.

Aged 26, the English central midfielder should be getting to a stage where he wants to play consistently.

He’s definitely contributed this season with 20 appearances across all competitions, but it feels like several teammates are miles ahead of him in the pecking order.
