Reports have claimed that Thomas Tuchel is interested in taking the England manager job if Gareth Southgate leaves after the World Cup.

According to The Telegraph, the German is keen to take the role next year, with there being doubts over the current manager’s future.

England fans have been vocal in their concern of the former defender’s leadership of his country going into this winter’s World Cup.

Relegation from their Nations League group will have done the England side’s preparations no favours. The Three Lions had not scored from open play until the final 30 minutes of their sixth group match with Germany.

There had been a lot of hopes that Graham Potter would make the step up from Brighton to lead his country next, although Todd Boehly has beaten the FA to any potential deal.

Tuchel keen on England job

However, they could get their hands on a former Chelsea manager instead, with The Telegraph claiming he would be open to taking over the Three Lions.

The German taking over England would see him working again with a number of players he has coached at Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount, Reece James and Ben Chilwell are all regulars in the England squad, with the likes of Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah all waiting in the wings too.

England fans should be excited about the prospect of Tuchel taking over the national team.

His knockout competition record at Stamford Bridge speaks for itself, with it on display no more obviously than in the Blues’ road to Champions League glory last year.

Some fans will even just be slightly annoyed that Tuchel couldn’t be given the job for the upcoming tournament, with confidence not high ahead of the tournament opener against Iran next month.
