Thomas Tuchel is reportedly eager to become the England manager if Gareth Southgate leaves his post.
According to the Sun, the former Chelsea manager would be willing to replace Southgate, permitted the opportunity presents itself.
Discussions over Southgate’s future as the Three Lions boss have now begun, following his nation’s quarter-final exit from the World Cup.
England have been nurtured by the ex-defender since he took over from Sam Allardyce in 2016.
In his six-years at the helm, the team have reached a European Championship final and the 2018 World Cup semi-final.
His side actually took a step back in terms of progression at a major tournament by losing to France on Saturday evening.
Yet, Southgate has clearly made vast improvements to a squad that stuttered and spluttered for nearly two decades.
But after such admirable service, the man in the Wembley dugout is apparently considering his future.
Thomas Tuchel eyes up England job
Possible successors have already started to circulate, with Tuchel pretty high up the list.
The 49-year-old is currently unemployed, having been harshly sacked by Chelsea in September.
Should he be given the England job, he would be reunited with several of the stars he coached at Stamford Bridge.
Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Ben Chilwell and Reece James are all involved in the England camp.
Raheem Sterling, the player Tuchel signed from Manchester City in the summer, is another who has repeatedly delivered for Southgate on the international stage.
With a strong core of Blues situated at St George’s Park, Tuchel would feel somewhat at home.
