Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was not involved in the club’s signing of Denis Zakaria this summer, it’s been reported.

Zakaria, 25, completed a move to Stamford Bridge on deadline day for the summer transfer window, joining from Juventus on a season-long loan move.

He’s yet to make his Blues debut since joining last week, but did feature on the bench in the recent Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

The Switzerland international is a defensive midfielder that’s joined to reinforce options in the centre of the park.

Tuchel not involved in Zakaria

It’s been explained that Tuchel, who was sacked by Chelsea earlier this week, played a major hand in the club’s transfer activity in the summer months.

In fact, Zakaria’s arrival was the only player whose move he didn’t play a role in.

According to The Athletic, Tuchel participated alongside the Chelsea board in signing every player during the recent window.

There were some notable additions that included the likes of Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marc Cucurella, too.

However, the late decision to sign Zakaria was carried out by the club itself.

Potterball

With Graham Potter confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach, it’s going to be interesting to see how the Blues group adapt to his methods.

If you look at Brighton’s various set ups in recent seasons, Zakaria should be encouraged that he can get into this line-up.

There’s some very strong competition for places in midfield, but his ball progression and athleticism is a big tick against his name.

The fact Liverpool reportedly tried to sign Zakaria on deadline day is an indication of his individual quality.
