Reports have claimed that Todd Boehly was left stunned when he found out that Chelsea were letting Antonio Rudiger leave for free.
According to The Athletic, the discovery that both the German and Andreas Christensen had not agreed new contracts during Roman Abramovich’s tenure.
The duo’s departure saw the Blues enter the transfer market with an air of desperation last summer and even in January in an attempt to replace them.

Before the season started, Chelsea brought in Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana in an attempt to fill the gaps that have been left.
The Frenchman has impressed greatly when he has actually been fit, however that has unfortunately not been as common as everyone would have liked this campaign.
As for the other two, they have both had their own struggles adapting to the Blues’ play at times this season.
Boehly stunned at Rudiger’s departure
While he may have been signed with the left-back role in mind, Cucurella’s best showings have been as part of a back three.
Perhaps unhappy with the availability and ability of their new signings, Chelsea entered the market again to secure the signing of young talent Benoit Badiashile.

The Frenchman has been very good whenever he has played since his January move. However, his inability to feature in the Champions League has seen him unfortunately left out at times.
Nevertheless, the new owners are reportedly feeling as if the situation didn’t need to get to the stage it did, with the previous ownership having plenty of opportunities to tie down Rudiger to a new deal.
The Blues are now set to take on the 30-year-old in the Champions League tonight, as they prepare to face Real Madrid for the third time in as many years in the competition.
