Chelsea has a new member in their ranks.

Well, it certainly feels like they have.

Kenedy’s early return from his loan spell with Flamengo is the closest the Blues have come to making a signing this transfer window.

Why is Kenedy wearing Chelsea colours once again?

The Brazilian was brought back to Cobham in response to the wing-back issues that are currently looming over the club.

Whilst Chelsea continue to pursue other options to cover for Reece James and Ben Chilwell, Kenedy has been asked to plug the gap for the moment.

Whilst some may hope this is only a part-time solution, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy seemingly have other ideas.

According to the Premier League website, the 25-year-old is now an official member of Thomas Tuchel’s team.

He hasn’t been given a number yet, yet this shouldn’t be too difficult to sort out.

Kurt Zouma’s old digits 15 could be snapped up, much like 25, 26, or pretty much any numeral over 30.

Emers-gone

One shirt that is probably being held in storage, for now, is Emerson Palmieri’s 33.

Chelsea have made recalling the full-back from Lyon their top priority this month, as to avoid splashing the cash on a player unfamiliar with Tuchel’s methods.

Emerson reportedly wants to reconvene with the colleagues he left behind over the summer, yet the French side are not so welcoming to the idea.

The Italy international has been one of Lyon’s better performers in a largely underwhelming season for the Champions League hopefuls.

Plus, the defender recently tested positive for covid, so a possible reverse move to South West London will have to wait at least until the end of the week.

Of course, by then, Kenedy could be Tuchel’s wing-back saviour. Then, Emerson might be a little redundant.

It’s a long shot, but stranger things have happened.
