Thomas Tuchel convinced Billy Gilmour to remain at Chelsea and continue his development rather than leave on loan, according to the Telegraph.
Matt Law stated in his weekly Chelsea newsletter that Tuchel had a conversation with the young Scotsman shortly after dropping him from his first game in charge of the Blues.
Gilmour went and spoke to the German coach following that 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers to discuss his future plans.
Around that time, the 19-year-old had been linked with a love move to Southampton (Daily Mail).
He initially believed a stint away from Stamford Bridge would benefit him in the long run.
However, Law says that Tuchel persuaded Gilmour to stay at Cobham and learn from his teachings.
Although the mini-midfielder remained a Blue, he is yet to have a significant look in under their new manager.
His only two appearances for Tuchel have been in the FA Cup against Barnsley and Sheffield United.
Being excluded from the matchday squad has become a regular theme throughout their relationship.
This was present again when Gilmour was omitted from Chelsea’s latest Champions League pack.
A repeated lack of minutes should be concerning for a player who will be aiming to feature at this summer’s European Championships with Scotland.
How long can a talented individual like Gilmour continuously wait in the wings for his chance at centre stage?

To kind of answer my own question, not very long at all!
I completely understand why Gilmour would want to persist with Chelsea.
He probably feels his performances, however brief, have warranted him more appearances.
Unfortunately, that just hasn’t been the case and I really believe he should begin to look elsewhere, just so his career doesn’t stall.
