Report: Two academy stars set for senior Chelsea debut in FA Cup tie against Morecambe

Frank Lampard reportedly plans to hand senior debuts to two Chelsea academy stars Lewis Bate and Henry Lawrence ahead of the FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe.

According to Goal, Chelsea have now paused any talks over potential loan moves for several youngsters until mid-January.

This is to allow Lampard to include as many Under-23s as possible in his FA Cup squad to face Morecambe on January 10.

The report mentioned Tino Anjorin, Lewis Bate and Henry Lawrence among the academy prospects who are likely to start the cup tie.

Anjorin already had a few senior appearances, including his Champions League debut in the group match against Krasnodar earlier this month.

For Bate and Lawrence, however, the upcoming cup tie could be their first senior match.

Unfortunately, a recent Covid-19 outbreak means the game could be rescheduled.

The League Two side have called off their games against Bolton Wanderers (Dec 29) and Bradford City (Jan 2) after several positive Covid-19 tests (via Morecambe’s official website).

They are also closing their training ground for 10 days, which means they will not be able to train until just a few days before their scheduled trip to Stamford Bridge.

So far, neither Morecambe, Chelsea nor The FA have released an official statement regarding a potential postponement.
