Report: What a government source has just said about Chelsea’s sale after Abramovich sanctioned

Roman Abramovich would be forced to lose Chelsea for absolutely nothing after being sanctioned by the UK government.

A government source has informed The Times that the 55-year-old Russian businessman wouldn’t get a penny from selling Chelsea due to sanctions enforced on him.

It would reportedly need “special dispensation” from the government for the club to be sold. This comes at a time where he’s made it public his aim to try sell the club.

Blues owner Abramovich reportedly values the London club at £3billion (ESPN), but Thursday’s breaking news has lead to chaos and confusion.

Chelsea handed licence

Chelsea are still allowed to play matches and conduct football activities due to a special licence, but are hit in so many other areas after Abramovich was sanctioned this morning.

The club can no longer sell any extra tickets, while the club’s shop will shut. Importantly, they can’t buy or sell players under current rules.

The government’s licence, which is initially in place until 31 May, explains the wages and coaches will still be paid.

A full run down of the impact the licence will have on Chelsea can be found on a Sky News recap.

For Blues supporters, these are extremely nervous times given nobody knows whether a takeover deal can be completed with an interested buyer. Hopefully, the club can strike a deal to push through a takeover which has the club’s interest as a priority.
