Frank Lampard’s return to Chelsea is going worse than anyone could have imagined.

The club legend has lost all five games in April since returning as caretaker manager until the end of the season, including this week’s 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford in the Premier League.

Now, reports suggest that Blues players are even confused by Frank Lampard’s management.

According to Miguel Delaney’s newsletter, word from within the Chelsea squad is that the players are confused by a lack of tactical structure.

It is understood that the Blues stars feel they have a lot of possession but very little plan for what to do with the ball.

We are certainly very worried hearing this!

Chelsea have scored one goal in five games since Lampard returned to the dugout.

Of course, Chelsea’s issues with scoring goals has been a problem throughout the season. The more worrying thing is they’ve not been creating chances at the same rate as the Graham Potter era.

Our concern is that it’s hard to see where Chelsea’s next positive result is going to come from.

The Blues still have to play the Premier League’s top four sides in their remaining six games. It’ll be pretty one-sided against Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Manchester United based off what we’ve seen lately.

That leaves games against Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest in the schedule.

Surely, Lampard’s side can get the solo point they need to reach the 40 mark in the league table.

Ian Wright recently explained he didn’t like Lampard’s team selection when Chelsea suffered defeat to Brentford this week.

Most Blues fans you speak to agree that some of the 44-year-old’s decisions have been very odd.

We want to see Lampard take the shackles off a side playing with zero confidence right now. The best way to do that may be to add a couple more offensive players, as well as give minutes to emerging talents that need it.
