Hakim Ziyech was outstanding in training when he first joined Chelsea as he always seemed to have the ball at his feet, according to the Athletic.

Sources state that Ziyech excelled in small sides games and was able to slow the pace down to his choosing.

The silky wide man always wanted the ball at his feet. When he received a pass, it appeared he had more time in possession than any of his teammates.

None of this was lost on the other players taking part, witnessing his undeniable ability first hand.

Another of the Athletic’s source stated that Ziyech created a bond with Billy Gilmour whilst they were both out injured.

They explained that Ziyech and Gilmour formed a strong rapport that was unexpected considering their respective ages.

The latter is still only 19, whereas Ziyech turns 28 next month. This did not disparage the pair becoming close during their rebab together.

This same Athletic source stated that the 27-year-old was also a hugely positive influence on the whole squad even when he spent time on the treatment table.

He mixed with all the different nationalities within the Chelsea set-up and become friends with everyone.

Ziyech may be a dream away from the pitch, but his performances on it have been less than idyllic.

Since his £33m (Sky Sports) from Ajax last summer, he has featured in 19 matches but only contributed to six goals.

Injuries have restricted him getting a consistent run of fixtures which is exactly what a player of his calibre needs to shine.

Unfortunately, the occasions Ziyech does start have been underwhelming.

He was really disappointing against Barnsley last night and didn’t perform much better in his last Premier League outing versus Wolverhampton Wanderers.
