Potential Chelsea buyers have reportedly been informed that the process to buy the club has been “paused”.

The Raine Group, who are an investment bank in charge of finding a new owner for Chelsea, sent out an email on Thursday evening in the aftermath of current Blues owner Roman Abramovich being hit with sanctions from the UK government.

According to The Athletic, Raine emailed numerous potential investors that are interested in bidding for the London club.

It is understood the email informed keen buyers that there will be a temporary delay while everyone works out the fallout from Abramovich’s sanctions.

The report states finding a new ownership will get “very stretched”, despite the fact there was originally a deadline of 15 March for final offers.

Chelsea future up in the air

Unfortunately, supporters will have to wait from the edge of their seats for an official update on the club’s future.

It was business as usual last night for the team with a 3-1 win away to Norwich City in the Premier League, but there is understandably a lot of focus on what happens off the pitch.

Abramovich will need to be granted another special licence from the government to complete the sale of Chelsea. However, the Russian businessman won’t be allowed to take any profit from a takeover that takes place.
