Reported Tuchel target suggests Chelsea already have a player who's tougher to face than Haaland

Ibrahima Konate named Timo Werner of Chelsea in front of Erling Haaland as the trickiest striker he’s faced in his career, speaking to UMM.

RB Leipzig’s young defender has been on the Blues radar for a while.

ESPN reported last month that there was contact between Konate and Chelsea, despite Liverpool looking most likely to lure him from the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old won’t have eased the excitement inside Stamford Bridge about a possible transfer during his latest social media activity.

Konate was asked to rank Robert Lewandoski, Werner and Haaland in order of toughest forward he’s come up against.

Lewandoski was first, with Werner coming in ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s no.9.

This may seem like a bold and very surprising selection, especially when you compare the current form of Haaland and Werner.

Chelsea’s German attacker has scored just twice in 31 games for club and country.

Haaland is on a run of 33 goals in 33 games for Dortmund alone.

However, Konate does have first hand experience of dealing with Werner, week-in-week-out.

The pair played together 57 times for Leipzig for three seasons before the latter made his major money move to England last summer.

In another universe, Konate might be calling Werner and Haaland teammates at Chelsea, rather than adversaries.
