Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has suffered a turbulent season so far. A mix of injuries, poor performances and some off the pitch controversy have left him struggling for minutes.

Frank Lampard openly criticised the England international following a taxi incident earlier on in the season. As reported by Sky Sports, when asked about whether he has learned from the incident, Barkley said: ”Yes, a big lesson. You have got to be aware of your surroundings when you let your hair down for any player out there.

”You have just got to be aware of what’s around you. It is just more about being with the right company and in private. When you play in the Premier League, you are a high-profile player, so it is about keeping low-key and switched on. When you are on holiday or away you need the right people around you.

The 26-year-old is clearly aware of his mistakes and is keen to prove that it will not happen again. As competition for places at Chelsea hots up going into the January transfer window, Barkley will have to win Lampard over as soon as possible.

The Chelsea boss has several midfield options available to him that facilitate a similar role to Barkley and if the club push for an addition in the attacking midfield role, the former Everton man could be pushed further out.

The Englishman has scored just twice for the Blues this season and will need to improve in the coming weeks if he is to have a future at the club.
