Roy Keane has explained what stunned him about recent Chelsea performance

Roy Keane had admitted he was stunned by how much space and time Chelsea gave opponents Manchester City in a recent meeting between the teams.

The Blues were beaten 3-1 on Sunday in the Premier League, which was the latest in a really disappointing run of performances.

Frank Lampard’s side were blown away in the first-half by Man City at Stamford Bridge, while before that match they had picked up just one point from league games with Aston Villa and Arsenal.

Chelsea went into half-time with Man City with a three-goal deficit and they were unable to get near the opposition for large spells of the opening 45 minutes.

Pundit Keane has ripped into the weekend performance from the London club, who have slipped down to ninth in the league table.

“I thought they [Manchester City] were brilliant on Sunday, but having said that I couldn’t believe how bad Chelsea well. You give me that time and space and I’d still be playing! If Manchester United play like Chelsea did then they’ll be in big trouble,” Keane told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel in the build-up to the Manchester derby (6 January).

It’s a fair assessment that Chelsea right now aren’t playing with the right intensity in games for 90 minutes, albeit they ran into a very strong opponent in Man City last weekend.

They desperately need a reaction in the coming weeks and their next league fixture is a London showdown with close rivals Fulham.

Lampard has the opportunity to try build some momentum going into that clash with this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Morecambe and the team desperately needs a spark.
