Sagna Rejection, Hazard’s Target and Cahill Worries

Sagna Rejection

Chelsea rejected the chance to sign former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna on Deadline Day, according to reports. After Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain snubbed the Blues in favour of Liverpool, Chelsea were looking for viable wing-back options, eventually signing Davide Zappacosta from Italian side Torino. Frenchman Sagna was also seen as an option for Antonio Conte’s side, but no move materialised. The defender remains a free agent, with Leicester City and West Ham reportedly interested in securing his signature.

Hazard’s Target

Ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League, Eden Hazard has backed his side to go all the way this season – and win the competition.

“This year is really important. I have reached the semi-final with Chelsea, when we lost to Atletico Madrid, so it’s in my head to win this trophy,

“I have won the Premier League, I have won the title in France, I have won cups, but big players always want to win the Champions League.”

Chelsea begin their Champions League campaign with a home fixture to Azerbaijani champions Qarabag FK, who are making their debut in the group stages of the competition.

Cahill’s Worries

Following his three match suspension, Gary Cahill says he feels naturally worried about losing his place in Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.

“It’s natural. If you’re out the team, the team does well… I’m part of the squad and I’m an individual player.

“I’m available for selection now and whenever you’re available you can influence things. It’s about the team. It’s about the team doing well.”

Cahill missed the last three league games, and summer signing Antonio Rudiger has filled the gap left by the newly appointed Chelsea captain.

Dybala Tipped

Paulo Dybala has been tipped for a potential move to Chelsea, by Mino Raiola. The agent of the likes of Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku has urged the Argentine to leave Juventus, and join a side that is already suited to him. Raiola believes a team such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, or Chelsea will be a good fit for the player. The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona in the summer, but a move never materialised.
