Saul Niguez has posted an upbeat message on Instagram after making his Chelsea debut in today’s 3-0 win against Aston Villa, despite the fact he was substituted off at half time.
Saul, who joined on the summer’s deadline day on loan from Atletico Madrid, was put into the starting XI for Saturday’s Premier League fixture at home to Villa.
However, the 26-year-old has had a rude awakening during his first taste of English football.
Unfortunately, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel decided to substitute him off at half time after an opening 45 minutes where he was targeted by the opponents with their high press.
The central midfielder struggled to get to grips with the pace and intensity of the game, with his passing and first touch a little suspect.
Chelsea eventually picked up three league points with a 3-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Romelu Lukaku (two) and Mateo Kovacic were the goalscorers.
Saul has shown a great attitude by posting a message on social media.
Chelsea fans should get behind Saul
It wasn’t a pretty Chelsea debut from Saul, but he looks like a great personality that wants to be at the Bridge. For now, it’s about him adapting on the training ground to his new surroundings.
The Spaniard needs to adapt massively from La Liga football to Premier League football because he’s spent his entire career in the former.
It would be foolish to write him off after 45 minutes.
