Chelsea loanee Denis Zakaria has provided a positive injury recovery update ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Ham.

The on-loan Juventus had a rough start to his career at Stamford Bridge, making just one appearance for the Blues in the first half of the season.

The situation changed after the World Cup break as he featured in five consecutive games in December and January.

Unfortunately, Zakaria picked up a quad injury in the away defeat to Fulham which has forced him for the last month.

The good news is that the 26-year-old seems close to a return.

“Step by step,” the Switzerland international wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of himself and Reece James on exercise bikes.

“See you soon.”

While Enzo Fernandez’s arrival and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s recent return mean Graham Potter have enough options for the holding midfield role, Zakaria’s presence will still be a big boost to the team, particularly given N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic’s absences.

Zakaria himself has a lot to prove in the Premier League to make the option to sign him permanently appealing to Chelsea.

The Blues reportedly have the option to sign the midfielder for €30million (£27m) this summer.

A recent report in Italy also suggested that Juventus could offer a swap deal involving Zakaria and Kovacic this summer.
