Senegalese media have their say on Chelsea ‘flop’ Nicolas Jackson after two-minute red card

Nicolas Jackson finds himself under a bit of scrutiny back home, with the Chelsea striker’s lack of composure coming under question following his quick-fire red card in Texas.

Nicolas Jackson’s rapid two-minute red card for Senegal against Saudi Arabia has thrown a sharp spotlight back on Chelsea’s crippling disciplinary issues.

The striker’s hot-headed dismissal adds to a deeply concerning trend for Chelsea, who endured a chaotic season that saw them rack up 98 yellow cards and 10 red cards across all competitions.

Fortunately for both the player and his country, Jackson has escaped the ultimate nightmare. Because the dismissal occurred during an international friendly, FIFA’s disciplinary regulations state that his automatic one-match suspension will only apply to Senegal’s next non-competitive fixture.

Nicolas Jackson’s all-round display criticised by the press

Senegalese outlet SeneWeb released an article on their tops and their flops after the 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia, and it comes as no surprise to see Nicolas Jackson in the flops area.

‘More inefficiency in the Senegalese striker. He missed a big chance a few minutes after coming on, then penalised his team by receiving two avoidable yellow cards in just two minutes, synonymous with dismissal in the 84th minute, 22 minutes after coming on.’

It’s the two words, ‘more inefficiency,’ that will worry Chelsea fans the most.

Chelsea cannot afford to take a chance on a striker

After witnessing Liam Delap’s inconsistencies last season, Chelsea cannot afford to leave Xabi Alonso in a position where he’s relying on Joao Pedro and inconsistent strikers around him.

Of course, pre-season will be a big tell, but Nicolas Jackson falls into that same category of uncertainty at Chelsea, where you don’t know what you’re going to get out of him.

His red card is the perfect example of the inconsistency and rash decision-making that plagued him at times at Chelsea. But the thing that draws you in with Jackson is that he could score a hat-trick one game, and then bring you completely down the next.
