Chelsea fans will be very pleased with what they have seen from their side as we enter the second international break of the season.

The Blues currently sit in the top four, with them unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening day under Enzo Maresca.

The manager has been consistent with his team selection so far, however will have to get creative for their next game due to suspensions for both Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.

The similar starting lineups have been a result of some individual’s performing at a level that is deemed just too good to drop right now.

The clear frontrunner for this accolade is Cole Palmer. The attacking midfielder has started every league game so far this season.

Cole Palmer in Premier League Team of the Season

Maresca has tweaked his position after the opening game of the campaign to feature more centrally, and this has seen him play arguably his best football since joining the club.

This has been recognised by WhoScored, with him being named in their statistical Team of the Season so far.

He has the third highest average match rating in the squad, only behind Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka.

Palmer described as ‘sensational’

Some pundits have argued that Palmer is already the best player in the Premier League, with him currently sitting on the most combined goals and assists in the top flight.

Wayne Rooney is one figure who has been open in praising the England international this season, with him coming out today and describing him as ‘sensational’.

Palmer is off to represent England during the international break, with him part of a strong Chelsea core that also involves Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke.

He will certainly be at the centre of Maresca’s plans when the Blues are back in action after the international break, when they take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.
