Michael Owen has waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s goalscoring hero Kai Havertz, who earned his side three more points in the Premier League earlier today.

Havertz, who’s now scored four goals in his last three league matches, popped up with an 89th minute winner on Sunday afternoon at home to Newcastle United.

The £150,000-a-week attacker elegantly controlled a lofted Jorginho pass before guiding the ball into the back of the net.

It required something quite special to finally unlock the Newcastle resistance, and it’s a result that strengthens the club’s spot in third in the league table.

Havertz, 22, is someone whose Chelsea career is going from strength to strength.

Owen applauded the German forward for Sunday’s goal, as well as weigh in with opinions on a couple of the game’s main talking points.

First of all, some were upset when Havertz only received a yellow card after an aerial collision that injured Dan Burn. The Blues star said post-match it was completely unintentional.

Also, Trevoh Chalobah was perhaps a tad fortunate not to concede a penalty after an incident with Jacob Murphy in the penalty box.

“My take on Chelsea v Newcastle talking points; Yellow card was correct for Havertz. Should have been a pen for Newcastle. Sensational finish, pure class,” Owen wrote on Twitter.

Chelsea investment worth it

Havertz’s legacy is secure at Chelsea football club after scoring the winner in a Champions League final.

However, plenty more needs to be done in order to really justify the £71million investment.

All the signs in the past couple of months are that the young German attacker is starting to rediscover more of the form he showed at ex-club Bayer Leverkusen.
