Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic delivered a match-winning display for the United States yesterday at the World Cup, which earned him a lot of praise in national media.

The United States edged past Iran with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday, which means they’ll now face the Netherlands at the weekend in the last-16 of the World Cup.

Pulisic, who was actually forced off the pitch at half-time with an injury he sustained in his goal, did score the vital goal to take his country into the knockout rounds.

The 24-year-old winger bundled in his effort from inside the box to secure the U.S. runners-up spot in Group B.

United States midfielder Weston McKennie has since shared that Pulisic told him he should be recovered from his injury for the weekend and available to play against the Netherlands.

Christian Pulisic against Iran

Pulisic’s first-half performance was enough to see national media in the United States wax lyrical about the Chelsea attacker.

NBC Sports wrote: “8/10. Scoring a round-clinching goal in a World Cup game is a really good way to cement your status in a national team program.”

In addition, Sporting News said: “9/10 – I mean, what can you say? Pulisic has been sensational this whole tournament, and he delivered the moment the U.S. needed, at the cost of his own health…. It’s a shame that his tournament may very well end like this, and that remains to be seen, but either way, he delivered a top-class moment that fans will remember for the rest of their lives…. For the rest of his 45-minute performance, Pulisic was quite good as well. He delivered two key passes on 28 touches, winning three of his four ground duels, including one of two duel attempts. He was a real factor in the final third, just like he’s been all tournament. What a player, what a moment.”

Pulisic proved yet again that he’s a different animal when he represents his country, albeit it was very disappointing to see him forced off the pitch with an injury.

Chelsea fans would absolutely love to see this version of him for them.

Blues supporters have watched the American look the real deal during stages of the last few years, but he doesn’t look like a £58million player on a consistent basis.
